I first heard about Fengshan in 2007. I was sitting in a bar in Yangshuo and talking to some rock climbers. We were talking about where we could go in China for rock climbing and making new routes. A friend of mine ran off to rummage around on the climbing magazine shelf of the bar. About 10 minutes later he came running back saying ‘this is the place, this is the place!’. He had a small green brochure with pitchers of lime stone caves and cliffs that from the photos at least made the Karst Towers of Yangshuo look small. He said he had been there and the photos were real and the place was really beautiful; bigger and better than Yangshuo. I never let the idea of this place slip from my mined after that!

One year past and I found my self back in Yangshuo running a climbing guides shop. It was the same shop, bar and cafe that I was sitting in 2 years before talking about Fengshan! The shop is called Karst Climber and as the first guiding service for sport climbers in China it is the best place to get information about climbing all over this part of the world.

At the beginning of November 2008 the local tourism ministry in Fengshan held a festival for climbers, cavers, and members of the public to come and see some local stage performances, a climbing competition and a caving demonstration. It was for 4 days and me and some other friends from Yangshuo went as guests for the event and had free everything! We took part in the competition, watch the show, eat lots of interesting food and one some prizes. We were also given a pitcher book, some local rice wine and a few other gifts!

The next time I went back, I stayed for nearly a month. I went with two friends and we again had a free trip, this time to make new rock climbing routes. I really fell in love with this place after that, and seeing how fast the development is going, I decided to start learning how to build websites so I could eventually tell people about this place. That is how this site came about and its all down to you now. The people who live here and the people who visit to log on and tell your storey.
